One of the carved Leaf & Tongue stones is partially cut out.
A new hand carved stone will be fixed in it’s place as this one was badly eroded.

Some new Portland stone repairs at the base of the drum. The colour is slightly brown due to the dampness of the mortar, in time these stones will dry to the same colour as the rest of the surrounding stones.

The Gilders have to be very careful when applying the gold leaf to the flames of the Flaming Orb

This temporary support will help the team determine the best height for the new Panoramic Camera system

The gilder has to make sure he gets into all the nooks & crannies of the Flaming Orb.
He has no hard hat on as this would hinder him trying to see what he is trying to gild and would most likely damage or scratch any flames that are already gilded
