I am learning about the Great Fire of London at school. Daddy is taking me to see the Monument today. Keep up the good work, I can't wait to climb to the top.

Having been laid-off in April, I would like to say how much I enjoyed working at The Monument. It was a great outdoor job in the rain and the wind, with wonderful views; and the satisfaction of a job well done. It is a shame that The Monument, hedged in by other buildings, is no longer included among the iconic high structures used to promote London.

As a Midlands immigrant to the East End I've taken many a guest to London up the Monument and to me - one of its most important apsects is its design as a giant telescope. That is why the stairs spiral with a gap in the middle. The telescope is fixed pointing upwards and helps determine atronomic latitude. Unfortunately it wasn't much cop at that but the gap in the stairs allowed experiments in elasticity which ended up with Hookes Law, “ As the extension, so the force. ” or F=-kx if you're a kid at school. So, if it had been a good telescope, would Hooke have even bothered to have used it for antything else? Anyway, just the ticket to show how 17th-century Britain was in the forefront of science.

This is my favourite London landmark. Thanks so much to everyone involved in the refurbishment! Disappointed I can't see it in October, I'll come again next year. Sigh. Keira

I have to say that the work that's being done is excellent. My father, Ron Dunsdon, who was once the Head Attendant at the Monument would have loved to have seen this work being carried out. Great job!

I have viewed your website with interest, and found the photographs of the work being carried out fascinating. I have visited The Monument on a few occasions myself, and look forward to your re-opening in the near future.
